Custom Orthotics Bring Relief to Your Feet

If your feet are suffering from pain or other ailments, you are in luck.  Your podiatrist at Reston, Manassas & Leesburg Foot and Ankle Centers offers orthotics to help your stand, walk and run more efficiently and comfortably.

Orthotic devices come in many shapes, sizes and materials to help alleviate your foot ailments. They also fall under three different categories, which include: rigid, soft and semi-rigid orthotics.

At Reston, Manassas & Leesburg Foot and Ankle Centers, your podiatrist, we utilize orthotics to alter or modify foot function.  Orthotics are also designed to treat, adjust and support various biomechanical foot disorders.  The most effective are custom-made orthotics, which are created to meet the specific needs of an individual’s foot shape and problem.

Your podiatrist in Reston, Manassas, & Leesburg prescribes orthotics as a conservative approach to many foot problems or as a method of control after certain types of foot surgery. Orthotics serve the purpose of correcting an abnormal walking pattern.  By slightly altering the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface, orthotics make standing, walking, and running more comfortable and efficient.

Visit your Reston, Manassas, & Leesburg podiatrist today for an evaluation and to remain on track for healthy, pain free feet with orthotics.

Heel Pain and Kids

At Reston, Manassas & Leesburg Foot and Ankle Centers, we want to emphasize the importance of not ignoring your child’s complaints about pain in their feet.  Your child should never play through the pain in their feet, as heel pain can lead to difficulty in walking that can require complicated therapy.  We never want our children to be in pain, and it is especially important to protect their feet from pain in order to allow them to remain active.  As your Reston, Leesburg, and Manassas podiatrists, we are available to help diagnose your child’s ailments, while also providing the best treatments possible to keep your children active.

Heel pain is a common child-hood complaint, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored or that you should wait to see if the pain will go away.  Heel pain is a symptom, not a disease.  In other words, heel pain is a warning sign that a child has a condition that deserves attention from Reston, Manassas & Leesburg Foot and Ankle Centers. Heel pain in children can often be associated with these signs and symptoms:

  • Pain in the back or bottom of the heel
  • Limping
  • Walking on toes
  • Difficulty participating in usual activities or sports

Treatment from your child’s podiatrist will depend on the diagnosis and the severity of the pain.  For mild heel pain, treatment options might include a reduction in activity and cushioning the heel with temporary shoe inserts.  For moderate heel pain, in addition to reducing activity and cushioning the heel, your podiatrist in Reston, Manassas, and Leesburg might use medications, physical therapy and/or orthotic devices.  If your child has severe heel pain, immobilization, follow-up measures or surgery might be needed.

Schedule an appointment with your podiatrist at Reston, Manassas & Leesburg Foot and Ankle Centers if your child is experiencing heel pain.
